Singapore JewelFest 2012

There will be a lot of glitter on Orchard Road soon… and we are not talking about the impending twinkling lights of Christmas along the shopping strip. It will be courtesy of diamonds, pearls and precious stones galore at the annual Singapore JewelFest 2012 as it celebrates its 10th year at the Jewel Pavilion at Ngee Ann City from Oct 12 to 21.

And as part of the celebration, the JewelFest, in collaboration with the Indian Women’s Association (IWA), will be presenting the Designers Adorn Divas on Oct 18, a runway show showcasing contemporary jewellery that is matched with the latest trends in Indian couture from Singaporean and Indian fashion designers.

Jewellers that have lent their bling to this show are Lee Hwa Jewellery, Goldheart Jewelry, Tianpo Jewellery as well as Singapore-based private jewellers The Jewel Box and Vihari Jewels from India which opened an office in Singapore in 2006.

Their creations have been paired with the couture designs of Sonali Jain of Divine Raga, Neita Sehgal of Emage Storr, Dina Thacker of Ishka, Kuljinder Kaur of Jinder’s and Vandana Talwar of Agragrami Fashion House.

In line with the IWA’s goal of integrating local women entrepreneurs with the expatriate Indian community, the runway show brings together designers who have moved base from India with home-grown labels to inspire and support the two communities.

Speaking about the event, which is conceptualised and executed by the IWA committee, JewelFest chairman Kean Ng said: “We are delighted to partner with the Indian Women’s Association to present Designers Adorn Divas, a special runway show that provides women with a platform to project their talent and be an inspiration to others to pursue their interests. We hope that visitors to the festival – both local and international – will have the opportunity to be enthralled by a dazzling showcase of iconic contemporary jewels set against a backdrop of timeless Indian couture.”

This year’s exhibition will showcase jewellery designs from over 50 jewellers from Asia and Europe worth over $100 million.

According to the organisers, this year’s JewelFest will see a 100 per cent jump in the number of participants since the festival was first inaugurated in 2003, making this year’s show the largest to date.

The festival will be presented in two editions: The first, from Oct 12 to 16, will feature haute joaillerie or fine jewellery showcasing fine designs from leading Asian jewellers; the second edition, from Oct 17 to 21, will feature local and European designers and jewellery houses.

The festival will showcase a broad selection of fine jewellery across a wide spectrum of price ranges to cater to enthusiasts with any budget.

Singapore JewelFest 2012 will be held at the Jewel Pavilion at Ngee Ann City Civic Plaza, Orchard Road from Oct 12 to 21 from noon.
